Mobile Device Use

Cell Phone Policy

All students must adhere to BUSD's cell phone policy as noted in our CA Assembly Bill 3216, the Phone-Free school Act, and BUSD board policy (Policy 5131.8). Every student is held responsible for adhering to the classroom expectations outlined by their teachers. If any student is falling to follow these classroom expectations, the following procedures will take place:

To Support a focused and respectful learning environment, all students are required to silence their phones and store them in the designated area upon entering the classroom.

Cell phones may not be used at any time during instructional periods. This includes the entire duration of class, from the start to the end of the period.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action in accordance with school guidelines. 

First Occurence

  • The phone is taken and the phone will be held in class by the teacher or sent to the office by the teacher
    • The student can retrieve it at the end of the class.

Second Offense:

  • The phone is confiscated and sent to the office 
    • Security will be called to transport the phone to the office.
  • The student is assigned a detention.
  • The parent /guardian will pick up the phone in the office.

Third Offense:

  • The phone is confiscated and must be picked up by a parent /guardian.
  • The student receives two detentions.
  • Parents/guardians and students must review the schoolwide cell phone policy.
